Aliante residents' spirits high
A summer storm did not dampen the spirits of Aliante residents who gathered recently for Movie Madness in the North Las Vegas community's Nature Discovery Park. "We didn't get to see `Jurassic Park,' but we all had a great time anyway," marketing manager Kimiko Peterson said. "Movie Madness turned into a community picnic with free hot dogs, popcorn and sodas, as well as spectacular views of the lightning storms in the distance." Peterson said winds made it impractical to raise the screen to show the movie. Sponsors North Valley Enterprises, Aliante's developer; and the city of North Las Vegas rescheduled the showing for the following evening, but it also had to be cancelled. The next Movie Madness event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, featuring "The Land Before Time." A future screening of "Jurassic Park" is planned. The 1,905-acre community features all-ages and age-qualified villages. Astoria Homes, Del Webb Corp., D.R. Horton, KB Home, Meritage Homes, Pardee Homes, and Pulte Homes are building homes in the all-ages village; Del Webb also is developing the age-qualified Sun City Aliante. Homes are priced from the low $200,000s to the $700,000s. Nearly one-fourth of the community is designated for recreational and public purposes including a municipal golf course, parks, more than 20 miles of trails and an arroyo. In addition, plans call for three schools and about 100 acres of commercial development including retail and business centers, as well as a 40-acre resort with gaming. North Valley Enterprises is an affiliate of American Nevada Co. and Del Webb. An information center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. To visit, take U.S. Highway 95 to the Interstate 215 east exit. Proceed to the Aliante Parkway exit then go south.
