TPC courses in Summerlin receive certification
Two of Nevada's three Audubon International certified golf courses are located in the Summerlin master-planned community: Tournament Players Club at Summerlin, the first PGA Tour stadium golf course in Nevada; and TPC at The Canyons, the only other Nevada PGA Tour stadium golf course. Both courses are certified as Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries. The nonprofit environmental organization, which was founded in 1987 and not affiliated with the National Audubon Society, consults with landowners to enhance environmental stewardship of their properties. The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for golf courses was designed to educate golf course owners, managers and employees about habitat management and enhancement, water conservation, and best management practices relative to the environment. "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries exemplify what can be done when people make a commitment to good environmental stewardship and sustainable resource management right where they live," said Ronald Dodson, president of Audubon International. "There are now 500 courses worldwide certified as members of this program." Summerlin, developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., is also home to the Jack Nicklaus-designed Bear's Best golf course and five others. The community also features nearly 100 neighborhood and village parks, nearly 100 miles of trails, 16 schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical and cultural facilities, business parks, and nearly 100 model homes. Houses, townhomes and condominiums are priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $700,000. Custom lots measuring from one-half acre to three-quarters of an acre are priced from the high $300,000s to more than $1 million, and custom homes are priced from $1 million. Apartments offer rents from the high $700s. To visit the community's home finding center, take Sahara Avenue west, past Hualapai Way, to Town Center Drive. Or, take Interstate 215 to the Sahara exit. The center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
