US Home office worker shows creative side

US Home Las Vegas Division receptionist Midge Schneider does more than greet visitors and answer phones. For years, she has expressed her creativity by assembling decorative displays in the division's office.

Schneider's latest creation recognizes Independence Day.

"After Sept. 11, I felt compelled to design a display that reflected all the emotions everyone was experiencing," she said.

The centerpiece is a holiday tree covered with red, white and blue bows; a hand-painted American flag made of wood; a tree-topper with American flags; raffia; and Raggedy Ann dolls. A hand-painted cut-out of Uncle Sam, a wreath, firecrackers and a water feature round out the display.

Schneider's next creation will feature an autumn theme, which will be followed by a Halloween display.

"We always get a lot of comments from our visitors. They love walking in the door to witches, ghosts, spider webs and all the Halloween fun," she said.
