Efficiency focus of homes at Sun City Aliante
Homeowners should expect lower utility bills and the satisfaction of helping the environment when buying an Environments for Living home from Del Webb, according to Joe Ball, director of construction for the builder. The program focuses on energy efficiency and seven key areas. "We pay particular attention to items such as tight construction, improved insulation systems, indoor moisture management and fresh-air ventilation," he said. "We pay more attention to framing techniques and insulation to minimize voids, gaps and compressions. The use of low-e windows and higher thermal properties contribute greatly to the increased energy efficiency." Through the program, the homes have improved thermal systems, use insulation with higher R-values, and install higher SEER-rated equipment and multiple air ducts. Combustion safety is another area; appliances are sealed or power-vented to help avoid back-drafting and the buildup of carbon monoxide. CO detectors are installed. In addition, the homes at Aliante and other Del Webb neighborhoods have earned the Energy Star seal for efficiency from the Environmental Protection Agency. "We're pleased to help our buyers save money while reducing air pollution and protecting the environment for future generations," Lorraine Roberts, senior sales manager, said. Sun City Aliante is the age-qualified component of Aliante in North Las Vegas. It is being built around an 18-hole, 6,900-yard, par-72 municipal golf course.
