Rolladen Rolling Shutters help keep heat out

Southern Nevadans concerned about increasing power bills are calling on Rolladen Rolling Shutters to help reduce energy consumption.

The shutters, which are used to cover doors, windows and doggie doors, are foam-filled aluminum slats that help reduce the infiltration of heat and wind into a home.

Fran Minnozzi, who opened the local Rolladen franchise at 6168 W. Charleston Blvd. more than 18 years ago, said the rush to get shutters on residential and commercial buildings began several weeks ago when temperatures increased.

"We ordered our material from Europe months ago. We knew this was going to happen, so we've been prepared. Our workers at the warehouse are swamped with work, but they have the material to meet the demand," she said.

Minnozzi said they help stabilize a home by keeping the heat out, which then makes it easier to cool at night.

"There are many businesses out there that claim their product saves on the energy consumption, but Rolladen is the best way for us to keep our energy consumption as low as possible," she said. "When the heat hits like it has the past week, everything becomes so hectic. Air conditioners give up because of the demand and people suffer."

Retired airline pilot Ernie Prosch wanted to protect his home while he was away.

"I haven't had any problems at all with mine. Of all the things that really make a house nice and comfortable, they are one of the better things. Mine are motorized and are 100 percent reliable. That's something people should know when they invest this kind of money."

The shutters can be operated with pull straps or by electrical switches and are available in an assortment of colors. The company removes existing iron bars and solar screens free of charge.

"Once home buyers discover how much help shutters can be, they won't ever want to be without them," she said. "And while shutters are not inexpensive, they raise monthly payments only slightly. The benefits ... are endless."

The showroom is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and by appointment on Saturday.
