Pulte homes save energy, money

Among the many energy-saving features Pulte includes in all of its new homes are low-emissivity windows, which have proved to significantly reduce heating and cooling costs, as well as reduce UV rays that can fade carpet, furniture and drapes.

Made with high-performance glass, low-e windows are designed to keep homes cooler in summer and warmer in winter.

In fact, Pulte Homes' Platinum and Platinum Plus Environments for Living homes built after January 2003 come with a three-year heating and cooling guarantee. If a homeowner's heating and cooling costs exceed the average guarantee for the first three years of ownership, the homeowner will receive a refund for 100 percent of the difference, according to Nat Hodgson, director of construction.

An Energy Star partner since 1996, Pulte Homes' Las Vegas division ranks No. 1 in Nevada for the highest number of homes featuring the Energy Star label, according to Nevada Energy Star Partners. Pulte has been building 100 percent Energy Star-labeled homes since 1999. The builder even takes energy efficiency one step further by including its Environments for Living building technology in each home.

Such homes have been designed, built and tested according to the principles of building science for optimal safety, durability, affordability and comfort. In addition, they cost less to own than a conventional home and can increase comfort through tighter construction of the building envelope. A tighter envelope seal significantly reduces drafts and outside noise, and helps maintain a consistent, comfortable temperature.

Pulte also ensures the highest level of energy efficiency through the materials used to build homes, such as cocoon cellulose insulation, which is a high-quality engineered wood fiber insulation designed to save energy and improve thermal comfort.
