Home's energy efficiency key to purchase

The energy efficiency of Ken Douglas' home in the northwestern valley convinced him to purchase a larger home by the same builder in the same neighborhood.

"I was looking for a bigger home and wanted it to be by the same builder because the product they build is so great. When I saw that they were building another new section around the corner from me, I knew it was the perfect opportunity," Douglas said.

The home has earned the Energy Star label, certifying it is at least 30 percent more efficient than a standard home.

"One of the other reasons I chose another home was for the energy efficiency. I know that this product offers superior energy efficiency," he said.

The home features low-e windows, a programmable thermostat, and return circulation every 20 minutes.

The builder is part of Nevada Energy Star Partners, a coalition of local developers, energy inspection certification companies, mortgage lenders and other nonbuilder partners.
