Rolladens sought to alleviate summer heat

Rolladen Rolling Shutters representatives are reporting an increase in business as valley residents seek relief from summer temperatures.

"The shutters reduce the intense heat during the morning and afternoons," homeowner Jeff Homeyer said. "They have been a tremendous help, and we really notice the difference if we fail to roll them down during the day. We try not to open them at all during the summer."

He and his wife, Tammi, installed the shutters last year on their 4,000-square-foot home in the southwestern valley.

"We love our shutters. Our kids especially like them, because they can sleep until 2 in the afternoon during the summertime," Tammi Homeyer said.

The filled, rolling aluminum slats can be installed over doors, windows and dog doors. They have been available in the valley for 20 years.

"I have known about them for a long time," said John Limb, who installed the shutters on his 3,500-square-foot home in the northwestern valley last year. "They (Rolladen) treated me good."

In addition, the shutters can help deter break-ins, according to company officials.

The shutters are custom made to fit each home. In addition, company employees remove existing solar screens or iron bars at no charge.

Through August, the firm is offering a free 15-gallon shade tree from Star Nursery with the purchase of shutters.

The company's showroom, located at 6168 W. Charleston Blvd., is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment on Saturday.
