Recreation center construction begins at Sun City Aliante

Sun City Aliante residents welcomed the start of construction earlier this week for the community's 17,825-square-foot recreation center.

When complete, it will include a fitness center with instruction rooms, computer and hobby rooms, an indoor swimming pool and spa, locker rooms, and a sun deck overlooking a golf course and mountains. Outside, it will include covered seating and lounge areas.

It is planned to open in spring 2005.

Tennis and bocce courts are already open at the North Las Vegas community, and several social groups have been formed, including a women's workout group, mah-jongg club, and walking group, according to the community association manager, Janice Neitzert.

Residents also can use the public, 18-hole Aliante Golf Club, which is adjacent to the community.

Open since October 2002, the 326-acre, age-qualified community offers seven floor plans, ranging from 1,155 to 2,105 square feet.

Each home uses the Environments For Living building technology, which includes energy-saving features such as low-e windows and blown-in cellulose insulation that allow the homes to qualify for the Energy Star seal, certifying they are at least 30 percent more energy efficient than standard homes. In addition, all homes come with a three-year heating and cooling energy-use and comfort guarantee.

Prices start from the $310,000s to the $440,000s.

Residents also benefit from the Aliante master plan's public spaces, which include the 20-acre Nature Discovery Park that offers a themed play area, group picnic area, amphitheater, soccer fields, and tennis and volleyball courts. Retail stores and a medical center are planned.

To visit, take U.S. Highway 95 to the Interstate 215 east exit. Proceed to the Aliante Parkway exit then go north. The office is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
