Pardee sponsors reception for young artists

For the third consecutive year, Pardee Homes joined with other community leaders to celebrate gifted local artists in the "Where I Live" arts competition.

"Pardee is honored to be involved in a program that encourages young artists to express their feelings about their community," Ray Landry, assistant vice president of sales for the builder, said. "Through programs like this we instill in our children the virtues of being aware of their communities and the diversity of people who live in them."

The builder partnered with Nevada Department of Business & Industry's Housing Division, Clark County School District, the real estate section of the Las Vegas Review-Journal and Las Vegas Sun, and The Venetian to sponsor the contest and an awards program. University of Nevada Board of Regents Chairwoman Thalia Dondero moderated the recent program.

Landry presented savings bonds to the winners, who were Red Rock Elementary first-grader Summer Byers, first place; Tobler Elementary third-grader Jared Rhizor, second place; and Ronzone Elementary fifth-grader Ashley Henderson, third place. Goldfarb Elementary fourth-grader Chelsea Steed won the Judges' Choice award. The Housing Division created a colorful 2001 calendar featuring the winning artwork.

Judges for the contest were art instructors Jan Butler and Vija Hamilton; Holly Ivy De Vore, Las Vegas Review-Journal and Las Vegas Sun; and Leigh Ann Cook, The Venetian.
