Harrison Landscape designs custom outdoor fireplaces
People who enjoy spending time relaxing or entertaining outdoors during the winter months may find that an outdoor fireplace is a useful amenity, according to Don Harrison, president of Harrison Landscape Co. "Some of our homeowners are looking to create a whimsical `ski lodge' effect in their yard, where they can fire up the fireplace and entertain around the spa. The combined visual effect of steam rising out of the spa and the glow of the fireplace is very dramatic," Harrison said. In addition to landscaping, the company designs outdoor fireplaces throughout the Las Vegas Valley. "Our fireplaces are not prefabricated, cookie-cutter molds where one size fits all. Every back yard has different dimensions and every homeowner has a different desire, that's why we make the fireplace to custom fit every customer." Harrison said most of his clients want accessories that bring "movement and energy" to their yards. He credits the appeal of the fireplaces to the flexibility of design and the simplicity of installation. In general, the company's designs complement the texture, style and color of the customer's home. Styles include traditional, beehive, Spanish and European, all of which can be further customized with flagstone, granite and tile finishes. Harrison said a cinder block and stucco fireplace with two 4-foot extended seating walls would cost about $4,500. Typically, a unit can be built on-site in less than a week. "The outdoor fireplace is a year-round amenity," he said. "Even when the cool nights turn warm, people still enjoy sitting around the fire -- just not as close." Harrison Landscape Co. and its sister company, Harrison Door, are located at 1951 Ramrod Ave. in Henderson.
