Lewis looks at post-merger strategy By Gloria Savko      Real Estate Writer      Lewis Homes is on pace to make 1999 another record sales year, in part because of the family owned company's recent merger with Kaufman and Broad Home Corp., a publicly held company based in Los Angeles.      The transaction, estimated at $593 million, was finalized Jan. 7, creating the largest home building firm in the United States. FULL TEXT Summerlin posts another record year Special to Real Estate       The master-planned community of Summerlin sold 2,246 homes in 1998, 41 percent more than the 1997 new-home sales in villages developed by The Howard Hughes Corp.      Hughes officials predicted that final sales numbers -- which include custom, age-restricted and country club developments not developed by The Howard Hughes Corp. -- will set another record when they are tabulated later this month. Last year's sales placed Summerlin first in the nation.      The year also was marked by continued development in Summerlin's southern region, the opening of a third golf course-oriented village, the addition of three parks, the opening of a 20-acre retail center, completion of a Summerlin campus of Community College of Southern Nevada and the signing of agreements with two national technology partners to create a communications network.
