Siena residents take a swing at tennis
Residents of Siena, a guard-gated community by Sunrise Colony Co. in Summerlin, are taking advantage of the community's four lighted tennis courts at its new health and fitness center. Tennis teams are already forming at the age-qualified community. "Tennis was in a lull in the '80s and early '90s, but it's making a huge comeback nationally. Like swimming and golf, tennis is a sport you can play all your life. There are tournaments for people in their 80s and older," John Holden, general manager of the community association, said. "There used to be a mind-set in this country that people shouldn't exercise too vigorously after a certain age. In reality, studies show that adults in all age groups hurt their health far more by not exercising than by exercising." The community's 15,900-square-foot fitness center has a cardiovascular and weight room, saunas, steam rooms, massage rooms, a 25-meter indoor lap pool and spa, and an outdoor pool and spa. Another community amenity is the daily-fee, 18-hole championship golf course, which is open to the public. The course incorporates the community's desert and elevated terrain. Residents are given special rates and preferred tee times. An 11,800-square-foot golf club is planned to include a pro shop, practice facility and the Siena Grille. Fourteen single-story floor plans are offered, ranging from 1,200 to more than 3,000 square feet and priced from the mid-$150,000s to about $650,000. One-third of the homes will be built along the golf course. To visit, take Sahara Avenue or Interstate 215 to Town Center Drive, go south and follow the signs. The sales office and model village are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
