First park nears completion at MacDonald Highlands

Construction is nearly complete on the first of three parks planned at MacDonald Highlands, a hillside community in Henderson.

"The gazebo is finished, the children's play area is complete, and the grass is rooting," Emily Sherwood, vice president of sales, said. "Soon we'll make the final landscaping touches and the park will be ready for MacDonald Highlands' families to enjoy as they begin to move in."

The 4-acre park features shade trees, flowering trees, shrubs and flowers as well as grass play areas.

"This park has been designed to cater to families, in particular families with small children," Sherwood said. "Our other neighborhood parks are being designed for more adult-oriented activities with tennis, volleyball and basketball courts as well as more open space and shaded areas."

The park is located between the neighborhoods of Highlands and Stonehaven. While most neighborhoods in the 1,200-acre community will comprise custom homes, Stonehaven is a semicustom neighborhood being developed by Toll Bros. The first residents moved in last month, and MacDonald Highlands' first custom-home residents are scheduled to move in soon.

The parks will encompass a combined 10 acres. In addition, five miles of fitness trails are planned. At buildout, there will be about 560 homes and 17 neighborhoods.

Custom lots from one-third acre to more than 2 acres are available, and priced from $159,000 to $2.2 million. View lots are also available, including some overlooking the community's DragonRidge Golf Club.

A temporary clubhouse is open, and memberships are being offered to MacDonald Highlands residents and nonresidents. Nearly all of the custom lots include with their purchase a social membership in DragonRidge.

The permanent 30,000-square-foot clubhouse is planned to include a golf shop, an exercise facility, a swimming pool, tennis courts and three dining rooms.

To visit, take Interstate 215 to Valle Verde Drive, turn south and proceed to Horizon Ridge Parkway. Office hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
