Sun City buyers keen on lifestyle, not retirement
Veterinarian Steve Crane and his wife, Vickie, selected Sun City Anthem, an age-qualified community by Del Webb Corp., because they enjoy the strong sense of community the Henderson development offers. Crane, executive director of the Western Veterinary Conference, said he isn't retiring to the community. "We don't have retirement plans," he said. "As members of the work force we are very comfortable at Sun City Anthem where there is a strong sense of community." The Cranes purchased the Concord model for its large owner bedroom and kitchen. They also liked that it had a wet bar. The community offers 19 models, ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet and more through the community's Gold Key program. Homes are priced from the low $140,000s to more than $500,000. The Cranes added a storage room and extended the garage and owner bedroom closet through Gold Key, which provides for a variety of options. "We customized our home to fit our needs," Crane said. "We made significant architectural changes such as expanding rooms, but even small touches like floor plugs for our aquarium, special plumbing and extra lighting made a big difference." The Cranes also enjoy the amenities outside their home. "We are especially looking forward to taking advantage of the swimming pools, tennis courts and fitness center at Anthem Center," Crane said. The 75,000-square-foot Anthem Center offers fitness, social and recreational opportunities for residents as well as Trumpets Restaurant and Lounge, which is open to the public. Golfing is also available in the community. To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway. The model-home village is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
