Summerlin discount program resumes
Summerlin's Preferred Retailer program, offering community residents discounts at more than 20 stores and restaurants, has been re-established. "The program provides opportunities for both the merchant and consumer," said Dan Van Epp, president of The Howard Hughes Corp., Summerlin's developer. "The merchant benefits from additional business and promotion within the Summerlin community, while the consumer benefits from the savings. It's a win-win for everyone and it's just one more benefit of living in Summerlin." Ten percent to 20 percent discounts are given to those presenting their resident cards, which are provided to all community residents. Participating merchants include those offering home furnishings and decor, health and beauty items, and auto care, as well as restaurants. Residents are informed of existing and new participants in the program via a listing in the community's monthly newsletter. "We have been participating in the program for a few months now and we really like it," Kathy Dondero, assistant manager at Mail Boxes Etc., said. "We have a sign on display in the store announcing the discount and customers appreciate the savings." "The program is a good opportunity to help create awareness of our company and build business," Victor Deland, store manager for Sherwin-Williams Paints, said. Summerlin has ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community nine of the past 10 years. It is being developed in villages in the western valley and is home to eight golf courses, more than 100 parks, nearly 105 miles of trails, 17 schools, and nearly 165 model homes. Custom-home sites ranging from one-half acre to three-quarters of an acre are priced from the $400,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $500,000 to more than $1 million.
