Henderson recognizes developers

The city of Henderson Economic Development Division and the Henderson Development Association co-hosted the fifth annual economic development awards program last Thursday at the Ritz-Carlton at Lake Las Vegas Resort. More than 500 people attended.

The honorees included 17 companies that moved to the city in 2003.

"These new companies ... have occupied more than 362,000 square feet of office and industrial space and are providing more than 650 new jobs. We estimate that these companies have generated an economic impact of more than $39.3 million," Bob Cooper, economic development manager for the city, said.

The honorees also included 12 businesses that expanded within the city last year, as well as 11 developers who brought 11 office and industrial properties to the marketplace. Three redevelopment projects also were recognized.

Cooper estimated that last year's economic impact to the community was $127 million.

"Overall, our awardees added 1,250 new employees, $31.4 million in new payroll, $3.1 million in new local business purchases and $92.5 million in new construction," he said.

Since 1999, the division has been instrumental in bringing to Henderson 81 nonhospitality, nonretail firms creating about 5,200 jobs and occupying more than 3 million square feet of space. The estimated economic impact is more than $305 million.
