Anthem Country Club rings in the New Year
Anthem Country Club's clubhouse became the site for a New Year's Eve celebration at which more than 200 members and guests rang in the New Year. Various rooms in the clubhouse were transformed for the festivities, where participants enjoyed dishes prepared by Anthem Country Club's chef Michael Farrell. The Sonja Lynn Schaffer band provided dance music, and the guests gathered on the clubhouse's 270-degree terrace at midnight to view the city's fireworks display. "We set out to provide the best time possible for our members to make a memorable start for 2001 with tremendous food, awesome entertainment and special touches that are the signature of our country club community," Ed Orr, executive director, said. Party guests received a picnic basket gift that was complete with plates and stemware, and each guest was eligible to win prizes; the grand prize was a getaway for two at a luxury hotel on the Strip. The clubhouse itself also features a golf shop, mixed grille room and sports bar, locker rooms as well as private club rooms. Anthem Country Club offers a "retreat" lifestyle for all ages, while its championship golf course lies amid the rugged mountain terrain. PGA golfer Hale Irwin and golf-course architect Keith Foster created the 7,300-yard, par-72 championship golf course that offers as many as seven tee boxes per hole. Equity and executive (non-resident) golf memberships are available. The athletic club features workout equipment, a salon, tennis and volleyball courts, a resort-style pool, lap pool, children's pool, whirlpool, basketball court, and play area. Buyers can choose from 20 floor plans and more than 50 architectural variations, including second stories, basements and casitas. Prices range from the $200,000s to more than $800,000. Custom-home sites are available and offer views of the city, mountains or golf course. To visit, take Eastern Avenue south to St. Rose Parkway. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.
