Lake Las Vegas Resort celebrates year of growth

The year 2000 proved a time of growth at Lake Las Vegas Resort in Henderson.

In January, fireworks lit the sky as the 496-room Hyatt Regency celebrated its grand opening. The Moroccan-style resort features a European-style casino, swimming pools, a spa and fitness center, the Camp Hyatt children's program, and several restaurants.

In addition, last year saw plans unveiled for the $500 million MonteLago Village. Under construction at the west end of the master-planned community's 320-acre private lake, MonteLago Village is planned to include a 350-room Ritz-Carlton hotel, spa facilities, luxury condominiums, gaming, entertainment, waterside dining, and commercial and office facilities. The centerpiece will be a bridge designed to emulate Italy's Pontevecchio Bridge featuring 70 hotel rooms and a pedestrian promenade with boutiques. The village is expected to open in 2002.

Last year also saw an increase of residential offerings.

On the north shore, Vila di Lago was introduced by AmLand Development. The 147-home community is terraced into a hillside and offers single-family homes as well as one- to three-story courtyard townhomes ranging from 1,603 to 2,536 square feet. Priced from $409,000, including lot premiums, each home includes an attached two-car garage with decorative driveway, landscaped front and rear yards, a patio or terrace, granite kitchen counter tops, 10-foot ceilings, marble entries, and ceramic-tile flooring in the kitchen and baths.

Vila di Lago is bordered on three sides by the Reflection Bay Golf Club and features a guard-gated entrance, winding streets, landscaped areas, a swimming pool, an event pavilion and views of the resort.

Also introduced was SouthShore Golf Villas. These attached homes measure 950 square feet and are priced from $341,250. Each features an owner bedroom with bath, a living room, an island kitchen with nook, a kitchen appliance package, and a patio.

MiraMonte, the community's first lakeside villa development, also debuted in 2000. Situated on a gated peninsula within the guard-gated community of SouthShore, MiraMonte is an Amstar Homes project. Priced from $1.5 million to $1.9 million, only 23 single-story homes are available in this enclave.

Also in SouthShore, the private SouthShore Golf Clubhouse opened on Aug. 1. With views of the fairways of the private Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course, the 29,000-square-foot clubhouse features a dining area, library, banquet and private dining rooms, locker rooms, a pro shop, cart and bag storage, a snack bar, and lawn area.

Also opening was Fire Station 96, with a crew of 20.

In May, a 144-slip marina opened, offering a boat launch, store, maintenance services, rentals, and boat and residential dock sales.

In October, the resort hosted the Wendy's Three-Tour Challenge golf tourney, a benefit for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. The tourney was played on the daily-fee, Nicklaus-designed Reflection Bay Golf Club, marking the fifth year that the nationally televised tournament has been hosted by the community.

Lake Las Vegas Resort is being developed by Transcontinental Properties Inc.

To visit, take Interstate 515 to Lake Mead Drive and head east to Lake Las Vegas Parkway. The reception center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
