Texas teachers taken in by Sun City Anthem

The prospect of challenging work in teaching and a warm climate drew Dennis and Marita Carroll from Perryton, Texas, to Henderson.

"There was a need for math teachers right away," said Dennis Carroll, who has taught high school math.

His wife, Marita Carroll, is a principal in Perryton.

The couple recently purchased a home at Sun City Anthem, an age-qualified community by Del Webb, and will move in full-time at the end of the school year.

The Carrolls had looked all over the Las Vegas area when they learned about the community.

"We drove out to see the community and were totally impressed. We just fell in love with it," Dennis Carroll said.

The Carrolls selected the Mayflower model, which features two bedrooms and a den in 2,707 square feet. The home also has a casita and golf cart storage.

"Very seldom do you buy something that exceeds your expectations," Carroll said. "This house did."

Models measure from 1,235 to 3,175 square feet and are priced from the $170,000s to more than $500,000.

The Carrolls said they were also impressed by Anthem Center, which offers fitness, social and recreational opportunities, as well as Trumpets Restaurant and Lounge, which is open to the public.

"The center is wonderful," Marita Carroll said. "I use the pool and fitness center a lot. Not only is it a fun place, but the view from Anthem Center is phenomenal."

Another amenity is The Revere at Anthem Golf Club, which offers two championship golf courses.

To visit the community, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway, turn left on Anthem Parkway and then turn right on Alexandria Drive.

Models are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
