Family deems Alterra perfect

Nikolaos and Nikie Filippides knew exactly what they wanted when they started their search for a new home. As employees of a moving company, they have helped a lot of families set up house. Now, they have settled into their own home at Richmond American Homes' Alterra neighborhood in the northwestern valley.

"Both of us grew up in two-story homes with lots of space and close neighbors. When we found Alterra, we instantly knew it was what we wanted. We hoped for a neighborhood where we could raise our kids and they would not have to play in the streets. With the courtyard-style homes there are four families nearby to get to know," Nikolaos Filippides said.

The Filippides recently moved to Las Vegas from North Carolina and are expecting their first child in February.

"We have very large families in Greece and New York and they love to come visit us and the city. Also, with the new baby, it was finally time to own a house. Our family is expanding and we needed a house to match," Nikie Filippides said.

They purchased the Spring model, a 1,357-square-foot home with three bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, a living room and dining room.

"This home was perfect for us. The baby will have its own bedroom, plus we will have an extra bedroom for any guests. The design is very open and spacious and you can tell it is built with quality in mind," Nikie Filippides said.

The home is priced from the $170,000s.

Also available is the Summer design, which measures 1,418 square feet and is priced from the $180,000s. It has three bedrooms with options for a loft and/or bonus room that brings it to 1,598 square feet.

The two-story Winter model measures 1,485 square feet and features a formal dining room, as well as a kitchen nook. It has three bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths; a master retreat is optional. The home is priced from the $180,000s.

Measuring from 1,645 to 1,933 square feet is the Fall design. The flexible floor plan features as many as five bedrooms, a combined living and dining area, family room and nook. An upstairs bonus room is optional. The home is priced from the $190,000s.

The same floor plans also are available at the builder's Ridge Court, Lone Mountain Terrace and Seasons developments.

To visit Alterra, take U.S. Highway 95 to Durango Drive, go east to El Capitan Way then turn north. Proceed to Racel Street and go west. Models are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Monday and Friday, when they open at noon.
