Country club lifestyle brings Midwest retirees to Red Rock
David and Pat Zinser, originally from the Detroit area, knew that they did not want to retire where there are cold winter months. Their search for a country club community ended at Sunrise Colony Co.'s Red Rock Country Club in Summerlin. "We liked everything that was going on in Las Vegas," David Zinser said. "Southern Nevada had the nicest overall year-round climate, and we liked the lifestyle offered at Red Rock Country Club." Avid golfers, the Zinsers live just off of the 11th fairway on the Arnold Palmer-designed course, a location that provides views of the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and the Strip. "We golf about three days a week, and we are also regulars at the sports club about four days a week," said Pat Zinser, who serves as treasurer of the community's Women's Golf Association. "Actually, we're in better health now than we've probably ever been." The country club lifestyle was an important factor for the Zinsers, who previously lived in country club communities in Atlanta and Ohio. The couple, married 16 years, moved into their new Acacia Collection home in December 1999, marking their fourth country club community residence. "We enjoy the many social aspects of a country club community, from golfing with your friends and neighbors, to dining at the clubhouse and attending social events," David Zinser, a retired energy industry executive, said. "In addition, we chose Red Rock Country Club because it is an active, family oriented community and they allow for personal golf carts on the course, which was another consideration for us." They purchased the single-story Acacia Plan 1102, which has three bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, a courtyard entry, living and family rooms, and a split three-car garage (one bay houses the couple's golf cart). The home can also be built with an optional den and measures 2,503 square feet. The guard-gated community offers one- and two-story designs with as many as six bedrooms and four-car garages, ranging from 2,100 to more than 8,000 square feet. Options include casitas, courtyards with fireplaces, wet bars, and owner retreats with media niches and fireplaces. Homes are priced from the low $300,000s to more than $2 million. Shared amenities include a clubhouse, sports club, an aquatic center and a tennis facility. To visit, take Sahara Avenue west past Town Center Drive and follow the signs. Or, take Interstate 215 to Sahara and go west. The sales office is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
