Sun City MacDonald Ranch promotes fitness activities

Sun City MacDonald Ranch is promoting fitness-related programs at the age-qualified community's fitness center in Henderson.

"They are into fitness and improving their health, and the wellness center is helping them custom-tailor programs based on their individual health and fitness goals," fitness director Susie Roles said.

The Desert Willow Community Center provides residents with aquatic exercise areas, aerobic rooms and exercise equipment.

The facility also includes a wellness center managed by St. Rose Dominican Hospital.

Roles meets frequently with interested residents to design individual fitness programs.

"I realize it is hard for some people to stay active, so we try to offer an array of activities to fit their needs. This motivates them to participate," Roles said.

The fitness center is equipped with exercise tracking technology, which monitors the exercise programs and residents' progress.

"I take residents through the process step-by-step. First we schedule a consultation where we review pertinent medical history and any possible limitations to exercise. The resident's current fitness status is then determined through a series of exercise tests. This information is combined to develop a safe, effective exercise program to help meet his/her health and fitness goals," Roles said.

Roles also provides residents with weekly charts of their accomplishments.

"We are really impressed with our fitness director, Susie Roles, because she gives us personalized attention and I love working out with the program she designed for me," said Bill Thomas, a recent swimming gold medalist in the Senior Olympics.

The 36,000-square-foot community center also houses the Desert Willow Golf Course pro shop, The Willows restaurant, multipurpose rooms for crafts and computers, a 250-seat social hall, reading room, outdoor swimming pool and billiard room.

Another community amenity is an 18-hole Billy Casper signature golf course. This 3,845-yard, par-60 course winds through the community.

Close-out prices range from the high $130,000s for the Classic Series' 1,020-square-foot Roseville model to the low $190,000s for homes in the Premier Series, which range from 1,261 to 1,562 square feet.

To visit, take Lake Mead Drive to Green Valley Parkway, go south to Horizon Ridge Parkway and turn east. The sales office is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
