Signs of remembrance at Shadow Hills
SPECIAL TO REAL ESTATE Perma-Bilt Homes' tribute to fallen law enforcement officers is a reality. The builder designated 15 streets within its Shadow Hills community to be named for Southern Nevada officers killed in the line of duty since 1905, and now those streets' signs are being installed. "When we first announced this tribute in 1999, we knew that is was the right thing to do in an area that will be home to many members of the local law enforcement community on a daily basis," Daniel Schwartz, president and CEO of Perma-Bilt Homes, said. "Now that the signs are being put into place and this tribute becomes a reality, the meaning is even more significant." The streets are named for Metropolitan Police officers, two officers from the North Las Vegas Police Department, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper, and an agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. At the Southern Nevada Law Enforcement Memorial held last May at Las Vegas City Hall, Clark County Undersheriff Richard Winget commended the builder. "The naming of the streets for the fallen officers from Southern Nevada is a great honor for both the officers as well as their family members," Winget said. "These officers paid the ultimate price, and this is yet another way to honor them." A permanent memorial to the officers is also planned at Shadow Hills, which is located near the Metropolitan Police Department's new Northwest Area Command and Academy. Both are scheduled to open within weeks. Shadow Hills is home to three neighborhoods plus the Shadow Hills Club, a 51,000-square-foot recreation facility for the exclusive use of residents. Club amenities include a swimming pool, lap pool, spa, barbecue and picnic areas, a putting green, half basketball court, an exercise room and saunas. A kitchen and party room are also featured. The Belle Crest neighborhood offers four floor plans, ranging from 1,362 to 2,363 square feet and priced from the $140,000s. Grandview is a gated neighborhood of single-story homes, ranging from 1,736 to 2,460 square feet and priced from the $170,000s. Three-car garages are standard. At Timberline, homes range from 2,895 to 3,828 square feet with as many as seven bedrooms. Home offices and casitas are optional. Prices start from the $230,000s. The 250-acre community features tree-lined streets and walking paths with rest areas. It will comprise about 900 homes at buildout, which is expected within two years. To visit, take U.S. Highway 95 to Cheyenne Avenue and head west. The Cheyenne exit off Interstate 215 is expected to be completed later this year, a spokesperson said. Perma-Bilt plans to start sales at Southern Terrace, a community near Russell and Fort Apache roads in the southwestern valley, in late February or early March. Four distinct product lines will be available, and priced from the $140,000s to the mid-$200,000s. All of the builder's sales offices and model homes are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Monday, when they open at 11 a.m. Perma-Bilt Homes entered the Southern Nevada market in 1994 and has since sold more than 2,100 homes.
