Signature donates gingerbread house to children's home
Signature Homes recently donated a holiday-themed gingerbread house to St. Jude's Ranch for Children in Boulder City. The gingerbread house was presented to St. Jude's at the organization's annual "Ranch Community Christmas Party" on Dec. 19. Following the party, it was moved to the facility's Youth Care building, where it was on display. Signature Homes co-owners Richard and Wendy Plaster purchased the gingerbread house in a silent auction held at a reception to benefit the Southern Nevada Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The series of gingerbread houses featured in the auction were created by renowned chefs representing a variety of Las Vegas resorts and restaurants. The Plasters bid $500 for their gingerbread house. Wendy Plaster said she and her company were delighted to see the gingerbread house benefit two worthwhile organizations. "Throughout the year, Signature Homes supports a wide variety of nonprofit organizations and events," Plaster said. "Purchasing and donating this gingerbread house was particularly gratifying to us, as it served the dual purpose of supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation and providing some extra holiday cheer for the children of St. Jude's Ranch." St. Jude's Ranch for Children is a nonprofit, nonsectarian home for abused, abandoned and neglected children of all faiths. The children live in home-like "cottages" located throughout the ranch. Each cottage has a set of "teaching parents" and six to eight children per cottage. The Make-A-Wish foundation is dedicated to granting the wishes of children who are battling life-threatening illnesses. The organization has granted wishes for more than 80,000 children worldwide. Founded by Riachard and Wendy Plaster in 1978, Signature Homes is one of Southern Nevada's oldest and largest, privately-held home builders. Over the years, the company has supported numerous community-based organizations, including Nevada Ballet Theatre and its annual performances of "The Nutcracker," as well as the Las Vegas Philharmonic, The Meadows School and SAFE House, a shelter for victims of domestic violence.
