Summerlin residents stay active through winter

Several amenities throughout the Summerlin master-planned community are designed to help residents stay in shape during the winter months.

"Summerlin residents are devoted to an active year-round lifestyle," said Larry Brocato, executive vice president of The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of the community. "Many continue to bundle up for a winter's walk, run or bike ride on Summerlin's trails despite the cooler temperatures. The community also offers many indoor recreational options for those not wanting to brave cooler temperatures."

Among the choices are public and private gyms. A private fitness club recently opened near The Trails Village Center. The Veterans Memorial Leisure Service Center, a city-operated facility located in The Arbors village, features an Olympic-size swimming pool, a gym, weight room, gymnastics room and dance studio. Both offer personal trainers.

Other community centers, located in The Trails, The Gardens and The Willows villages, host recreational activities including health and fitness classes.

"With so many recreational amenities offered throughout the community, it is easy for our residents to keep fit during the winter months," Brocato said.

In addition, the community is home to more than 100 miles of trails and more than 100 parks, several of which feature lighted sports facilities.

Summerlin has ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community for 10 of the past 11 years, according to independent surveys.

Situated along the western rim of the valley, the community is home to eight golf courses, 17 schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical facilities, cultural facilities, business parks and nearly 120 model homes.

Single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums are priced from the low $200,000s to more than $700,000.

Custom-home sites are priced from the high $500,000s to more than $1 million. Predesigned custom homes are priced from $2.1 million.

Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the low $800s.
