Summerlin `dances' in culture
Nevada Ballet Theatre is one of the major cultural facilities in the Summerlin master-planned community, providing dance education to nearly 500 students and housing the state's only professional ballet company. The troupe has been located in Summerlin since 1999, according to Tom Warden, vice president of government and community relations for The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin. "Its home, the state-of-the-art Donald W. Reynolds Cultural Center, stands as a hallmark to the community's commitment to the arts. Many lives, young and old, are enriched by Nevada Ballet Theatre's programs, and we are proud the company makes its home in Summerlin," he said. The 36,000-square-foot facility has eight dance studios: one for fitness classes, including Pilates and yoga; a studio designed for tap dancing; and six rooms with spring floors for ballet. "Nevada Ballet Theatre is not just about ballet," company director Harry Ferris said. "We're about dance and movement and exercise for participants of all ages." The academy is making plans for its summer programs. Two-week camps for children ages 3 to 12 will start June 14, and an intensive program for preprofessionals, who are selected from auditions, begins July 26. Summerlin is being developed in villages in the western valley. It is home to eight golf courses, 107 neighborhood and village parks, more than 100 miles of trails, 17 schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical facilities, business parks and nearly 120 model homes. Available single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums are priced from the low $200,000s to more than $700,000. Custom-home sites in The Ridges are priced from the high $500,000s to more than $1 million. Predesigned custom homes are priced from $2.1 million. Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the low $800s. For more information, visit www.reviewjournal.com/real estate and click on the Summerlin link.
