EPA applauds Pardee Homes, again
Pardee Homes has been named an Energy Star Partner of the Year for the second consecutive year by the Environmental Protection Agency. The company will be recognized for its effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by building homes that meet or exceed Energy Star specifications for energy efficiency during an awards ceremony Tuesday in Washington, D.C. The builder was selected from among more than 3,000 organizations that participate in the program. "Energy Star is a vital part of our company's overall commitment to premium value for home buyers," President Mike McGee said. "As the nation's first multiregional builder to embrace Energy Star, we have made an unprecedented commitment to create new homes that are better for homeowners and for the earth." McGee said a typical Energy Star home keeps 4,500 pounds of greenhouse gases out of the air each year. Agency statistics show that program participants saved enough energy in 2003 to power 15 million homes and reduce air pollution equivalent to that of 15 million cars, while saving consumers $7 billion. Pardee built 2,300 homes last year, preventing about 10 million pounds of greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere. "Energy Star partners such as Pardee Homes have shown tremendous vision by building homes that are better for the environment. EPA is proud to recognize companies such as Pardee Homes with its second Energy Star award," said Kathleen Hogan, director of the agency's Climate Protection Partnerships Division. "Pardee takes great pride in marking its second consecutive year of accomplishments as an Energy Star Partner," marketing executive Joyce Mason said. "Energy Star homes save money and precious natural resources, while offering a more comfortable living environment year-round." A partner in the voluntary program since 1998, Pardee homes have energy-saving features such as high-performance low-e glass, sealed ducts, weather stripping on exterior doors, and appropriately sized HVAC systems. The company has built homes for more than 25,000 Southern Nevada families since 1952.
