Rhodes supports fundraising event

SPECIAL TO REAL ESTATE

Rhodes Homes lent its support to Kendall Tenney's 5K Run For A Wish, an annual fundraising event for the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada on Feb. 3.

The event featured 2,000 participants and included a 5K run/walk and 1-mile fun walk, both held in downtown Las Vegas on Feb. 3.

It raised more than $260,000 for the foundation while dozens of Rhodes employees participated, and the builder donated $50,000, which will be used to fulfill wishes for children coping with life-threatening medical conditions.

"The Make-A-Wish Foundation has been an incredible resource for bringing joy to the lives of children in need in Southern Nevada," said Glynda Rhodes, chairwoman of the Rhodes Homes Charitable Giving Committee. "The entire Rhodes Homes company was proud to be a part of such a successful Run For A Wish that raised funds and awareness for the outstanding efforts of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada."

The foundation granted 121 wishes to local children last year, and assisted nearly 60 children visiting Las Vegas to have their own wishes granted.

"Through the generous support of companies like Rhodes Homes, we're able to make a positive impact in the lives of children in our community, and beyond," said Karen Iglesias, president of the foundation.

"Rhodes Homes also has been an important supporter of our efforts throughout the year, and we appreciate their dedication to our cause."

The race began near the Fremont Street Experience, and wound its way through the downtown area.

Several wish children participated in the 5K's opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the race itself.

Participants in the event included individuals such as wish children with their families and supporters, avid runners and walkers, board members and volunteers as well as teams from various community, business and school organizations.

"Everyone involved in this event knows how much this organization means to children who are suffering from a life threatening illness such as a brain tumor or cancer," Glynda Rhodes said.

"Rhodes Homes was proud of the support of everyone involved on behalf of Make-A-Wish Foundation in helping make the event such a great success."

The event featured sponsor booths with activities, live broadcasts from FM radio KWNR 95.5 and KVBC-TV, Channel 3, as well as raffles, refreshments and a post-event award ceremony.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada chapter started in 1996, and can be reached at 212-9474.

Rhodes Homes has developed master-planned communities in the Las Vegas Valley, such as Rhodes Ranch and the Tuscany master-planned community in Henderson.
