MonteLago Village described as `unique haven'

Residents and guests of Southern Nevada will soon have a unique haven to rest, shop, dine and explore at MonteLago Village in Henderson.

Located inside the 3,850-acre Lake Las Vegas Resort, the village is set upon the waters of Lake Las Vegas and will feature cobblestone streets, boutiques, bistros and restaurants. Construction has begun on the project, which is slated to open in the fall 2002.

"MonteLago Village is an ideal oasis in the Southern Nevada desert," Sherri O'Boyle, director of sales and marketing, said. "It will embrace the architectural flavors of Old World Tuscany and Lake Como. Residents and guests can enjoy white-sand beaches, a mile of lakeside walkways, and ample opportunities for water sports such as sailing, kayaking, rowing and sport fishing."

The village's design focuses on pedestrians and will offer transportation across the lake via gondolas and water taxis.

"Everything about the village will exude charm, mystery and intimacy. The project will be true to its inspiration. It will culminate into a European-style `people-meeting place' that is gracefully integrated into its natural surrounding," O'Boyle said.

Plans include light-washed buildings with carved wood corbels, balconies, shutters, vertical grills and flower boxes. A stone bridge inspired by the Ponte Vecchio in Florence will connect pedestrians to a Ritz-Carlton hotel and the village's main plaza.

About 800 furnished vacation condominiums, ranging from studios to three-bedroom units, will surround a courtyard terrace. A 40,000-square-foot casino, a spa with outdoor treatment rooms, and as much as 125,000 square feet of retail space are also planned.

Intrawest is developing MonteLago Village in coordination with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co., Cook Inlet Region Inc., and Transcontinental Properties Inc., the developer of Lake Las Vegas Resort.

To visit, take Lake Mead Drive, seven miles east of Boulder Highway, to Lake Las Vegas Parkway.
