Siena throws party for sweethearts

Siena couples celebrated St. Valentine's Day with a candlelight dinner-dance last weekend at the Summerlin village's Tuscan-themed social center.

"St. Valentine's Day began as an ancient Roman festival. Since we love parties up here in Siena, we wanted to mark the day with a romantic celebration," said Kristyne Blake, activities manager for the age-qualified community.

"Residents are now looking forward to a late February carnival to celebrate Mardi Gras, another holiday with roots in ancient Italy. A jazz trio will play, and we'll serve authentic New Orleans fare, complete with king cakes."

The 12,000-square-foot social center is the site of many classes and clubs, such as sewing, Scrabble and ceramics.

"Ballroom dance classes are so popular and so are the watercolor and computer classes. Italian classes are being offered to prepare residents for our group odyssey in May to Siena, Italy," Blake said.

The 665-acre Sunrise Colony Co. community also offers recreational opportunities in its 15,900-square-foot health and fitness center. The facility has a cardiovascular and weight room, a wellness center, saunas, steam rooms, massage rooms, and a swim pavilion with a 25-meter indoor lap pool and spa.

Outdoor amenities include lighted tennis courts, bocce ball courts, swimming pools and spas.

An 18-hole championship golf course has the Spring Mountains as a backdrop and views of the city. Its 11,800-square-foot golf club will include a pro shop, learning facility and dining patio.

The guard-gated community offers 14 single-story floor plans, ranging from 1,200 to more than 3,000 square feet and priced from the mid-$160,000s to more than $650,000.

To visit, take Sahara Avenue or Interstate 215 to Town Center Drive and go south. Models are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Sunrise Colony Co. is also developing Red Rock Country Club in Summerlin.
