Snow draws sledders to Summerlin park
Residents of the Summerlin master-planned community gathered in The Arbors Tennis & Play Park recently for an afternoon of "cold-fashioned" fun. More than 20 tons of ground ice covered the park's hillside for the 10th annual Snow Day. The event was planned exclusively for residents by The Summerlin Council, the nonprofit branch of the Summerlin Community Association which arranges social, educational and recreational activities. A record number of people attended the event, said Lezlie Barnson-DeNardin, director of community relations for the council. "It is wonderful to see this activity grow in popularity every year. What started as a simple activity for a few hundred residents has become an annual tradition for thousands," she said. Joining employees of the council and The Howard Hughes Corp., Summerlin's developer, were nearly 50 football players from Palo Verde High School, who have volunteered to help with the event for the past few years. Snow Day is one of more than two dozen events planned by the council each year. "The opportunity to participate in a variety of unique and fun social and recreational events enhances the Summerlin lifestyle," Barnson-DeNardin said. Summerlin has ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community 10 of the past 11 years, according to independent surveys. Located along the valley's western rim, it is being developed in villages and is home to golf courses, parks, trails, schools, houses of worship, retail and medical centers, and cultural facilities. Available single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums are showcased by nearly 120 models. Homes are priced from the low $200,000s to more than $700,000. Custom-home sites in The Ridges are priced from the high $500,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $2.1 million. Apartments offer monthly rents starting from the low $800s. For more information, visit www.reviewjournal.com/real estate and click on the Summerlin link.
