Plans for Henderson's second largest park were included and approved in an annexation agreement between Del Webb Corp. and the Henderson City Council last Tuesday. The park agreement was part of the city's annexation of the last phase of the builder's Anthem master-planned community, adding approximately 2,529 acres.
The first phase of the 55-acre Anthem Hills Park, near Reunion and Sonatina drives, will be developed by Del Webb Corp. and dedicated to the city of Henderson. The builder describes the park as an example of a private and public partnership.
"We've been working diligently with Henderson Parks and Recreation Department to develop a first-class facility for the residents of Henderson," Michael Jesberger, vice president of land planning and development for the Del Webb Corp., said. "Del Webb recognizes the impact that the new developments bring to communities, and this is our way of ensuring growth is paying for growth."
The park's first phase, which is scheduled for completion at the end of summer, will contain a baseball field, two softball fields, basketball courts, a playground, a roller hockey rink and a skate park.
"In negotiating the annexation of Del Webb's phase two development, the parks agreement was crucial in the overall process," Steve Rongyocsik, director of parks and recreation, said. "Undertaking the task of developing this particular agreement to ensure residents the highest quality in parks and facilities was monumental."
According to the builder, the park project is estimated to cost: $7 million for construction; $950,000 for planning; $500,000 for the park's off-site improvements; $400,000 for permit and connection fees; and $2.2 million for a trail system within Anthem Parkway's loop.
In addition, Del Webb Corp. announced plans to dedicate a library site adjacent to the park to the city of Henderson, and a 20-acre middle school site to the Clark County School District. The developer also plans to build and equip a fire station.
