Summerlin celebrates `Snow Day'

Hundreds of Summerlin residents recently celebrated the master-planned community's eighth annual "Snow Day," when 50 tons of ground cocktail ice were brought to The Arbors Tennis & Play Park, according to the developer.

"Snow Day has become a much-anticipated tradition for Summerlin residents," according to Lezlie Barnson-DeNardin, director of community relations for The Summerlin Council. "Regardless of whether we're sledding in shirt sleeves or bundled up for the cold, it's the closest thing to an authentic winter experience in the desert and it's loads of fun for Summerlin families."

Snow Day is one of more than two dozen events planned at the community.

"The opportunity to participate in a variety of unique and fun social and recreational events enhances the Summerlin lifestyle," Barnson-DeNardin said. "Events such as Snow Day have become seasonal traditions for many families. We continue to build upon the successes of events like Snow Day, and at the same, time, endeavor to develop new activities for the community's growing and diverse resident population."

Developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., Summerlin has ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community for eight of the past nine years, according to an independent survey. Situated along the western edge of the Las Vegas Valley, the community is home to more than 60,000 residents.

Amenities include nearly 100 parks, more than 90 completed miles of trails, houses of worship, schools, cultural facilities, business parks, shopping centers, medical centers and more than 100 model homes.

Townhomes, condominiums and single-family homes are priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $700,000.

Custom lots as large as three-quarters of an acre are also available, and priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $1 million. Predesigned custom homes are priced from $975,000. Apartments offer monthly rents from the $700s.

To visit the home finding center, take Sahara Avenue west, past Hualapai Way, to Town Center Drive. Or, take Interstate 215 to Sahara. The office is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
