Sun City seeks easy riders
Sun City Anthem residents who long for the freedom of the road have formed a motorcycle club, one of several special interest groups open to homeowners of the Del Webb Corp. age-qualified community in Henderson. "There's nothing like being on the open road," said motorcycle club organizer Paul Kupsh. "You see more, smell more and feel more in tune with the surrounding environment on a bike than traveling by car." Kupsh, who owns a 1996 Harley Davidson Dyna Wide Glide, has arranged several short distance rides for the small band of serious riders. "We've had organized rides to places close to home like Laughlin, Indian Springs and Boulder City so far," he said. "This summer, I plan to ride cross-country to South Dakota. We're having a lot of fun." Kupsh and his wife, Joyce, have also enjoyed spending time at Anthem Center since moving to the community from California. The 75,000-square-foot facility offers fitness, social and recreational opportunities for residents, as well as Trumpets Restaurant and Lounge, which is open to the public. "Anthem Center is great," Paul Kupsh said. "Joyce uses the fitness center every morning. She also belongs to the computer club, which meets there. I play in the billiards club, and we both enjoy the hiking club. There are many activities to choose from." In addition to the community's activities, its location influenced the couple's purchasing decision. "Since I still have business connections in Southern California, we wanted to go where we could easily reach that area," said Joyce Kupsh, a retired college professor at the University of California, Pomona. "We also like Sun City Anthem's location because it's close to an international airport." They selected the Monticello model. "We like the openness of the floor plan and the two spacious bedroom suites on opposite sides of the house, which is great for overnight guests. We also have two offices and a three-car garage, which we need for all our toys -- a boat, motorcycle, mountain bicycle, other sporting equipment and, of course, the car," she said. The 2,752-square-foot design is part of the Estate Collection and features dual owner bedrooms, a dining area, island kitchen that opens into the Nevada room, and covered patio. The home is one of 19 models offered at the community, ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet and more through the Gold Key program. Prices range from the low $140,000s to more than $500,000. To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway. The sales office and models are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
