City of Henderson event marks economic growth
The city of Henderson's Economic Development Division and the Henderson Development Association held their third annual economic development awards program last Thursday. The event was held at the Green Valley Resort and Spa and was attended by more than 300 business leaders and elected officials. Bob Cooper, economic development manager for the city, said that last year's development activities had a $138 million impact on the community. "Overall, we added one thousand new employees, $26 million in new payroll, $8 million in new local business purchases and $104 million in new construction," Cooper said. "Over the past three years, 40 companies have relocated or expanded to Henderson. The new companies relocating to Henderson have occupied more than 2.5 million square feet of office and industrial space and are providing more than 5,000 new jobs. We estimate the economic impact of our activities to date at more than $500 million." Companies relocating to Henderson in 2001 were: The Art Institute of Las Vegas, Concentra Medical Centers, Dawn Enterprises, HCA-Far West Division, Impac Medical Systems, Lexon Medical, Nutek Inc., On Press Printing Services, Paychex, Peachtree City Foamcraft, Poly-West/Poly-America, Volutone Distributing Co. and Yellow- Pages.com. Businesses that expanded operations were: Aldec; Chavez & Koch; Continental PET Technologies; Dekker/Perich/Holmes/Sabatini; Deslauries; Duco Technologies; First American Title Co. of Nevada; Houldsworth, Russo and Co.; ITT Technical Institute; PBS&J; TWC Construction; Woods Erickson Whitaker & Miles; and Your Vitamins. Developers recognized for bringing more than one million square feet of office and industrial space to the city were: American Nevada, Citivest Property Group, Conde Del Mar Properties, Harsch Investment Properties, MagnuM Opus Development, Pacific Properties and Development, Paladin Realty Group and Robert Davis & Associates. Individuals recognized for their contributions to the city's economic development were: Ron Meek of the Henderson campus of the Community College of Southern Nevada, Rod Davis of St. Rose Dominican Hospital and a past president of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce and Henderson Development Association, Phillip C. Peckman of The Greenspun Corp., and Joan G. Kerschner of Henderson District Public Libraries.
