Centex's Berkshire Estates designs make the grade with educator
Centex has made the grade with Desert Pines High School Dean of Students Sandra Whitlock, since she bought her first home by the builder three years ago. When Sandra began searching for a new residence in preparation for her new life with fiancé, Mike McCarty, she looked to the builder once again.
"I put three Centex communities on my short list when I went looking for a new home this time around. I bought my first Centex house used, and even though I was way past the two years of warranty coverage, they came out and fixed some minor problems for free anyway. I was amazed."

Sandra and Mike studied Berkshire Estates in North Las Vegas, giving it "high marks."
"I wanted a pool and the lots at Berkshire Estates were large enough to let me have one without taking up my entire backyard," she said. "The split entryway makes the house seem much larger than it really is. We love the great room because it lets you be with your family while you're cooking or doing dishes, plus there's that cozy fireplace."
The neighborhood offers three home designs in bi-level, tri-level and two-story floor plans with as many as six bedrooms, three baths in as much as 3,170 square feet. Granite kitchen islands, fireplaces, upgraded Whirlpool Gold appliances, owner's suites with walk-in closets, maple cabinetry with roll-out shelves, maple handrails throughout and chrome handles and hinges on interior doors are standard features.
Standard wiring includes phone, cable and ceiling fan prewiring in all rooms.
Exterior standards include cobblestone pavers in driveways, walkways and front yard landscaping.
Lot sizes measure up to 6,000 square feet and include private, gated RV/boat parking in most yards, with garage service doors as standard features.
The homes are Energy Star-certified.
"My home at Berkshire was being built while I bought it and Centex really kept me in the loop," Sandra said. "They encouraged us to come out on Sundays and see how things were going.
"We love our new home so much we recommended Centex and StoneBrook, another Centex neighborhood we had visited, to our best man for our upcoming wedding and he's in the process of purchasing one himself."
The neighborhood is in proximity to Mt. Charleston and Floyd Lamb State Park, as well as the Red Rock Canyon Recreation Area.
It is located off Tropical Parkway and Pecos Road, with access to Highway 95, Interstate 215, the Las Vegas Beltway, and Interstate 15.
