Red Rock `friends' aid local charity

The Progressive Friends of Red Rock recently hosted a party to benefit New Start Home, a local, nonprofit organization that helps unwed mothers become able to support themselves and their new babies. More than $2,000 was raised at the event.

Red Rock Country Club residents Nancy and Martin Stone, Gail and Bill Sachankos, and Rosemarie and Bob Schaich co-hosted the first party in 2001.

"The progressive party was designed as a fun way to meet some of our neighbors," Nancy Stone said. "This year, in addition to ourselves and the Sachankoses, Connie and Mark Schellerup and Debi and Bob Crews volunteered to play host to the more than 80 Red Rock Country Club residents who enjoyed the festivities."

The Stones' home was the first stop of the evening where residents enjoyed hors d'oeuvres and cocktails followed by soup and salad at the Sachankoses' home. Next, guests feasted on roasted lamb served by the Schellerups and then ate dessert at the Crewses' home.

"This year we decided that we also wanted to help out a local charity," Stone said. "Everyone had such a wonderful time and their generosity was overwhelming. This is one event that we intend to keep as an annual tradition at Red Rock Country Club. It gives neighbors a chance to get to know each other while giving something to those in need."

The 738-acre, guard-gated community will consist of 1,116 homes upon completion. Priced from the $350,000s to more than $2 million, the one- and two-story designs range from 2,300 to 5,300 square feet with as many as six bedrooms.

To visit, take Sahara Avenue west, past Town Center Drive, and follow the signs. Or, take Interstate 215 to the Sahara exit and go west. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
