Fitness options plentiful at Siena

Residents of Siena, an age-qualified community in Summerlin, have an array of classes, activities, seminars and personal training to help them keep fit year-round.

"With the newest fitness classes emerging and the latest state-of-the-art equipment being utilized ... our goal is to not only provide a variety of activities and classes that are fresh and fun, but to also provide instruction and encouragement that help our residents be more confident and comfortable with the equipment they are using and the classes they are participating in," health and fitness manager Wayne Ireland said.

The community's 15,900-square-foot Tuscan-themed health and fitness center is equipped with cardiovascular and weight-training equipment, exercise rooms, and an indoor swim pavilion with pool and spa. In addition, there is an outdoor pool, and tennis and bocce courts.

The center offers monthly equipment-orientation sessions, as well as water aerobics, aerobics and yoga classes. Also, fitness specialists are available to answer residents' questions.

"We get questions on everything -- about proper weight machine usage, personal exercise programs, operations of equipment and just general fitness questions. Nothing gives us more satisfaction than helping our residents become more confident in their personal fitness routines," Ireland said.

In addition, the facility houses a wellness center run by Summerlin Hospital Medical Center that provides health screenings and reference material, as well as a beauty salon and day spa.

An interim social center features a computer lab, sewing center, club meeting rooms, classes, billiards and cards. The 39,000-square-foot permanent social center is under construction and expected to open this summer.

Additional amenities include a golf clubhouse with a pro shop and restaurant, and an 18-hole golf course.

Located in the southwestern valley, the project is being developed by Sunrise Colony Co.

The 665-acre community will comprise about 1,980 homes upon completion.

To visit, take Sahara Avenue or Interstate 215 to Town Center Drive and go south to Siena Monte Avenue. The model village is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
