MoneyWorld assists disabled adults

Century 21 MoneyWorld netted a record $11,000 at its annual year-end auction. The funds were donated to a local nonprofit group that provides housing for the disabled.

"This year 100 percent of our auction proceeds were donated to New Vista Ranch, a home for Las Vegans affected by Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy and other disabilities," said manager Andy Hrycyszyn, who coordinated the event.

The realty firm sponsors fund-raisers, including a golf tournament and follies show, throughout the year, president Mike West said.

"This one is my favorite because it truly involves the MoneyWorld team, who donate items for the auction, then bid on them themselves at our year-end, in-house event," he said.

Auctioned items included homemade cookies, crafts, baseball memorabilia, sports equipment and sound systems, Hrycyszyn said.

"We couldn't be successful if everybody at MoneyWorld didn't get onboard with this. They do, and that is why we're able to write a check for thousands of dollars to start the year off right for a terrific charity," he said.

"Donations like MoneyWorld's mean quite a bit," Kelly DeGuzman, executive director of the 10-year-old facility, said.

The donation will help fund recreational activities for residents, staff training and repairs.

New Vista Ranch, which provides housing and teaches daily living skills to 28 adults between the ages of 19 and 60, has plans to expand within the next five years, DeGuzman said.

"We want to build a community center, as well as a retirement center for the disabled," she said.

Although the organization relies on donations, it also operates a thrift store at 3085 Valley View Blvd.

MoneyWorld has also donated funds to charities such as HELP of Southern Nevada, Golden Rainbow and Saint Therese Center.

Century 21 MoneyWorld has four offices in the Las Vegas Valley.
