Educational options build in Summerlin

Regis University is one of three institutions of higher learning in Summerlin, a master-planned community that aligns the western edge of the Las Vegas Valley.

In 1999, Community College of Southern Nevada opened a satellite campus and tech center in The Arbors village; in 2003, Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts opened a facility in The Crossing village; and Regis University opened its doors in Summerlin Centre last year.

Larry Brocato, executive vice president of The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin, said residents do not have to leave the community to pursue additional learning opportunities.

"Summerlin has flourished as an active community, and key to that vibrancy are the opportunities for residents to keep learning, regardless of their age," he said.

Chris Bridenbaugh, a resident of Summerlin and an instructor at Regis, said the institution emphasizes communication skills founded on a heritage of values-centered Jesuit education.

"Values are critical in all that we do," she said. "For that reason, they are incorporated into the fundamental teaching of both theories and applications at Regis."

Regis offers flexible options to accommodate working students. Degree programs include business, elementary education and liberal arts. Classroom-based courses, independent work classes and online classes are available. Both bachelor's and master's degree programs are offered.

Summerlin has ranked as the nation's best-selling master-planned community 10 of the past 11 years. It is comprised of villages, and features eight golf courses, 107 parks, more than 100 miles of trails, 17 schools, houses of worship, shopping centers, medical facilities, cultural facilities, business parks and nearly 120 model homes.

Single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums are priced from the low $200,000s to more than $700,000. Custom-home sites in The Ridges are priced from the high $500,000s to more than $1 million, and predesigned custom homes are priced from $2.1 million. Apartments feature monthly rents starting from the low $800s.
