Sun City Anthem `adopts' local school
Sun City Anthem was recently recognized by the Clark County School District Partnership Program for sponsoring Edna Hinman Elementary School in Henderson. The age-qualified community's official "adoption" of the school recently took place during a ceremony at the Anthem Center. Nearly 90 members of the school's fifth grade choir performed during the event. Representatives of the Del Webb Corp. community presented $706 to the school from the sale of Entertainment Books. Community employees presented $700 in books to the school. "Sun City Anthem residents are known for their generous spirit and community involvement, and the enthusiasm we've already seen from residents wanting to help the school and the students has been exceptional," activities director Karla Pearson-Call said. "The clubs that have volunteered have such valuable contributions to make, as does every individual resident committed to devoting time to tutoring the students and improving their reading skills." The community's Book Club, Women's Club, Anthem Authors, Computer Club, and Arts and Crafts Club volunteer at the school. Several residents also tutor pupils in reading and other subjects. "These are wonderful children, and we're so excited to participate in their academic progress and to be able to provide for certain needs when and where we can," Carol Chapman, president of the book club, said. Under a corporatewide "Adopt-a-School" program, residents of other Sun City communities have also adopted schools. Locally, Sun City MacDonald Ranch adopted Robert Taylor Elementary School, and Sun City Summerlin adopted Rose Warren Elementary School. "This is the start of a great relationship, and our residents will tirelessly make sure they do everything they can to help these students. The bond has already formed," Pearson-Call said. Many of the community's amenities are housed at Anthem Center. The 75,000-square-foot recreational facility opened last May and offers members fitness, social, club and dining opportunities. Other amenities include The Revere golf club, which offers special rates and tee times for community and Clark County residents. A second golf course under construction is expected to open in about a year. Its first driving range is scheduled to open in late January. The community offers 15 model homes, ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet and more through its Gold Key program. Homes are priced from the high $130,000s to more than $500,000. To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway, and follow the signs. The sales office and model homes are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
