SPECIAL TO REAL ESTATE

MacDonald Highlands, a hillside custom-home community in Henderson, is preparing to host next spring's Street of Dreams luxury housing show. Five show homes are under construction and promise to be "spectacular," according to Bryan Ashbaugh, chief executive officer of Street of Dreams Inc.

"The unique hillside geography of MacDonald Highlands, coupled with the community's unparalleled views of the valley, offer the opportunity to really create something special," Ashbaugh said. "The (show) will likely be the most spectacular of any we've put together in Southern Nevada."

Equally delighted is Rich MacDonald, the developer of the guard-gated community.

"When next year's Street of Dreams event opens, MacDonald Highlands will have many families living in outstanding hillside custom homes. I can't think of a better way to complement those homes than by showcasing some of the best custom builders in the country during Street of Dreams," MacDonald said.

"MacDonald Highlands changes so much every month that home buyers and real estate professionals who haven't visited in a while will really be surprised by the development of our community and the number of families now enjoying the beautiful hillside views from their homes."

To date, more than 30 custom homes have been completed or are nearing completion within the 1,200-acre community. At buildout, there will be 560 residences and 17 neighborhoods. Eight custom neighborhoods are under development with lots offering city and mountain views, as well as views of the community's centerpiece -- DragonRidge Golf and Country Club. Lots in these neighborhoods are priced from $150,000 to more than $2 million.

A temporary clubhouse is open and tee times are available. The permanent clubhouse is expected to open in late 2002 with a golf shop, exercise facility, swimming pool, an upscale dining room and a separate mixed grill and lounge.

Neighborhoods open for sales are: The Highlands with partial city and mountain views; Lochmere and Kings Links with golf frontage, lake and mountain views; Palisades and Lairmont with golf frontage, city and mountain views; Glenbrook Canyon and Montrose with golf frontage and mountain views; and Lochinver Ridge featuring hillside lots with city and mountain views. Stonehaven features semicustom homes by Toll Bros.

The community's master plan includes three parks encompassing about 10 acres with tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, play areas and picnic facilities. Fitness trails are also planned.

To visit, take Interstate 215 to Valle Verde Drive, turn south and proceed to Horizon Ridge Parkway. The office is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
