Siena collects toys in holiday drive
The age-qualified community of Siena in Summerlin collected hundreds of toys for the U.S. Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program this holiday season. "The barrel the Marines brought out to our community was filled to overflowing many times. Finally a large room was piled from floor to ceiling with toys," said senior vice president and project manager Paul Smith, who helped deliver two truckloads last week. "We want to thank the many very generous Siena residents, visitors and employees who participated. We were all proud to be a part of this traditional holiday effort by the U.S. Marines to bring gifts to needy children throughout our valley." The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve distributes the donations to several nonprofit agencies, including Help of Southern Nevada, Catholic Charities and the Salvation Army, who in turn distribute them to local children. One-third of the community's 1,900 single-story homes will be located along an 18-hole championship golf course, which is open to the public. Fourteen Medi- terranean-style floor plans are available, ranging from 1,200 to 3,000 square feet and priced from the mid-$150,000s to more than $650,000. Among the amenities is a fitness center, which is scheduled to open this month. The facility will have exercise equipment, saunas, steam rooms, and an indoor lap pool. Outdoor recreational facilities will include lighted tennis courts, bocce courts and swimming pools. There is a full-time fitness director. The 665-acre Sunrise Colony Co. project will also have a community center with arts and crafts facilities, a ballroom, theater, card and billiards rooms, and a computer and business center. There is a full-time activities manager. A palm-lined boulevard leads to the community's Tuscan-style entry, manned on a 24-hour basis by security guards who also patrol the neighborhoods. The community is bordered on the north by Flamingo Road, on the east by Hualapai Way, on the west by Town Center Drive, and on the south near Russell Road. To visit, take Sahara Avenue to Town Center Drive and turn south. Proceed past Desert Inn Road and follow the signs. Or, take Interstate 215 to Town Center Drive and go one-quarter mile south. The models are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
