Sun City MacDonald Ranch residents aid local school
Sun City MacDonald Ranch residents help children improve their reading skills by donating several hours weekly to Robert Taylor Elementary School in Henderson. "Sun City MacDonald Ranch residents are known for their caring support of Robert Taylor Elementary," Sally Harvey, a member of the age-qualified community's Literary Guild, said. "The excitement we've seen from residents wanting to help over the years is tremendous. In fact, last winter, not only did the Literary Guild donate books, the entire community donated school supplies as well." In addition, the MacTappers, one of the Del Webb community's largest clubs, performs for the youngsters. Recently, the group presented a holiday skit while handing out cookies and candy canes. "We're thrilled that the MacTappers get to perform," said Harvey, who also is a member of the dance group. "We're going to make a holiday tradition out of this." Through Del Webb's corporate-wide "Adopt-a-School" program, residents of Sun City communities nationwide have "adopted" schools in need. Sun City MacDonald Ranch selected Robert Taylor Elementary School nearly five years ago. Residents volunteer their time and talent, and "every Christmas, we set a goal to give each child a book," Harvey said, pointing out that in 2000, more than $5,000 in book donations was presented to the school. Also in Southern Nevada, Sun City Anthem assists Hinman Elementary School, and Sun City Summerlin works with Rose Warren Elementary School. Homes at Sun City MacDonald Ranch are priced from $121,100 to $164,400. The Premier Series offers five floor plans, ranging from 1,261 to 1,674 square feet. To visit, take Interstate 215 to Green Valley Parkway, head south to Horizon Ridge Parkway then turn east. Models are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
