Of the more than 1,500 entries in this year's annual "Where I Live" art contest, 119 will be exhibited from Jan. 6-20, 2003 at The Venetian. A reception honoring the featured youth artists will be held at the hotel on Jan. 7 at 6:30 p.m. During the reception, Pardee Homes will present a $300 savings bond to first-place winner Catherine Kulaga, a fifth-grader at Piggott Elementary School; a $150 bond to second-place winner Lorelle Lagario, a second-grader at Lowman Elementary School in North Las Vegas; a $100 bond to third-place winner Natasha Culbreth, a first-grader who is home-schooled; and a $50 bond to Judges' Choice winner Monica Moazez, a fifth-grader at The Meadows School. Pardee will also present $25 to pupils at various elementary schools who received honorable mentions: Cassidy Bukovinsky, a third-grader at Martha P. King in Boulder City; Destinee Valdez, a fifth-grader at Goldfarb; Kytiana Johnson, a fourth-grader at Fitzgerald in North Las Vegas; Jessica Tuttle, a third-grader at Kesterson in Henderson; Tessa DeJong, a kindergartner at The Meadows; Jetzain Gutierrez Villa, a fourth-grader at Long; Jennifer Toka, a fifth-grader at Twitchell in Henderson; Victor Meraz, a fourth-grader at Twin Lakes; and Michelle Lorza-Lopez, a third-grader at Ober. From the $500 donated by Piero's, $25 awards will be presented to the runners-up: Irma Carrillo, a fifth-grader at Dooley Elementary School in Henderson; Marlene Garcia, a fifth-grader at Fay Herron Elementary School in North Las Vegas; Mia Claridy, a second-grader at Twitchell Elementary School; Makenna Youngberg, a fifth-grader at Kahre Elementary School; and Jimi Bell, a third-grader at Ronzone Elementary School. The aforementioned are featured in the Housing Division's 2003 calendar to be distributed at the reception. The program also received $500 from Houdini's Magic Shop and $200 from the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association. Other community partners included the Clark County School District's Community Partnership Program, Nevada Housing Division, the Real Estate section of the Las Vegas Review-Journal and Sun, and The Venetian.
