Cloud Carpets exec touts resilient flooring

Roy Shelton, owner of Cloud Carpets in Las Vegas, has been watching floor covering trends for more than half a century and believes one trend has remained constant -- the demand for the natural look in resilient flooring.

"Resilient manufacturers are continuing to respond to the strong demand by homeowners for natural looking products with earthy tones, textures and graphics," Shelton said. "Because resilient today looks nothing like the old, speckled stuff of the '70s, consumers have been receptive to the combination of durability, ease of maintenance and that eye-pleasing look only this type of flooring can offer."

The most recent trend in resilient designs is hardwood planks. Hardwoods have been popular for years, Shelton said, but the newer products repel moisture and stains.

"Wood is a great product, but it is still a product that is hard to maintain in certain areas of your home," Shelton said. "It's a great product for the dining room, maybe a living room, or areas where you can control traffic. Vinyl is a good product for kitchens, breakfast areas, dens, game rooms and playrooms for the kids. With so many innovative products appearing now at our showrooms, flooring consumers can have it all. From warm hardwoods to fabulous realistic stone, to fun looks from the past. Our stores offer greatly improved looks with the durability that put resilient on the floor-covering map."

The company has been a major carpet dealer in Las Vegas since 1962. It has four locations in Southern Nevada. The 50,000-square-foot flagship store on Industrial Road near Tropicana Avenue features a design center and showroom for spas.

The design center helps buyers coordinate entry, kitchen and bath, and other hard flooring needs with soft floor coverings, including custom-dyed or woven carpets.

The other stores are located on Rainbow Boulevard north of Charleston Boulevard, on Water Street in Henderson, and in Mesquite. The owners are Roy and Gayle Shelton and Grant Selle.
