Around-the-clock security draws buyers to Siena
There are several reasons why Jack and Nettie Ruggles chose to buy a new home in the age-qualified community of Siena in Summerlin. Topping the list is the fact that the community is guard-gated 24-hours a day. "We are very security conscious," Jack Ruggles said. "Siena is the only over-55 community in the valley with a guarded gate." In addition, security cars also patrol the neighborhoods on a 24-hour basis. Nettie Ruggles was equally impressed by the size of the community, which is 665 acres. "This is a very close-knit community of friends out here," she said. "Our neighbors are our support group." Resident events also impressed the couple, and have included golf tournaments, a group hike in nearby Red Rock Canyon, an ice cream social, an Italian street fair and holiday parties. Buyers can choose from five series of Mediterranean-style homes and 14 floor plans. The Ruggles opted for the Plan 7130, a 2,572-square-foot home in the Florence Collection. They have decorated their home with large relief sculptures and have views of the mountains and the community's 18-hole golf course. The Ruggles are avid golfers and cited the course, designed by Schmidt & Curley, as another reason for buying at Siena. The 11,800-square-foot golf club will include a pro shop, practice facility and patio dining. Additional amenities will include lighted tennis courts, bocce ball, and swimming pools. A 40,000-square-foot community center will house arts and crafts facilities, a ballroom and theater, card and billiards rooms, and a computer and business center. The fitness center is scheduled to open this month with a cardiovascular and weight room, a wellness center, saunas, steam rooms, massage rooms, and an indoor lap pool. All homes are detached, single-story designs ranging from 1,200 to more than 3,100 square feet. Prices start from the mid-$150,000s to more than $650,000. Options can be selected with the assistance of on-site interior designers. Among the available customizing options are casitas and courtyard fireplaces. About one-third of the community's nearly 1,900 homes will align the golf course. To tour the model village, take Sahara Avenue to Town Center Drive and head south past Desert Inn Road. Models are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
