Red Rock Country Club residents tout golf lifestyle
When Bob and Sharon Ozar moved to Las Vegas 4 1/2 years ago from Southern California, they looked for a home within a golf course community. Their search finally ended when they became one of the first residents at Red Rock Country Club, a guard-gated country club with two golf courses in Summerlin. The Ozars moved into their home in May 1999, and since then, Bob Ozar has rarely missed a day on the green. He has a goal of completing 500 rounds of golf in 2001. "I golf every day," Bob Ozar said. "It is fun for me, and I never did anything in my life that was fun, until now." The retiree previously owned a tire and auto repair business in Culver City, Calif. "I feel like I died and went to heaven," he said. Sharon Ozar has also been working on her golf game. In fact, the Ozars recently won the Couples Club Championship with a net score of 65. "I used to golf about once a year prior to moving to Las Vegas, and now I play about three times a week," said Sharon Ozar, who is a member of the Women's Golf Association. "I started out playing with the Niners, who played nine holes, and I've now graduated to an 18-holer (group)." The Ozars were familiar with Sunrise Colony Co., the community's developer, having owned one of its homes in Palm Desert, Calif. "Sunrise Colony is such a good company, and we have many friends who have purchased one of their golf course homes in California," Bob Ozar said. "We already knew the company and were among the first to purchase at Red Rock Country Club, where we were the 25th family to move into the community." The couple, who have five grown children between them, purchased the Acacia 1102, which has three bedrooms and split three-car garage, with the one-car garage used for their golf cart. The single-story, 2,503-square-foot plan has a courtyard, living room, family room and 3 1/2 baths. A den is optional. The home also has room for their two Bichon Frise dogs, Mandy and Cottonball, a parrot named Reno, and a cockatoo that answers to either Mischief or Missy. The community offers one- and two-story homes with as many as six bedrooms and four-car garages, ranging from 2,100 to 8,000 square feet. Prices start from $290,000 to more than $2 million. Five collections of floor plans are available, featuring Spanish colonial, Italianate and desert contemporary styles. Design options allow for casitas, courtyards with fireplaces, wet bars, and retreats with media niches and fireplaces in owner bedrooms. The builder's design center assists homeowners with design decisions. Among the amenities is a 44,000-square-foot clubhouse, which overlooks the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and features restaurants and meeting rooms. A New Year's Eve grand opening party for members is planned. There are also two golf courses, a practice facility, pro shop, sports club, tennis facility and aquatic center. To visit, take Sahara Avenue west, past Town Center Drive, and follow the signs. The models are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Sunrise Colony Co. is also developing the Siena age-qualified community in Summerlin.
