Recent retiree makes full use of Sun City Anthem

When Donna and Patrick Lakers lived in Alameda, Calif., they decided that they needed a change. Now living in Del Webb Corp.'s Sun City Anthem, they've fully embraced the lifestyle of the age-qualified community in Henderson.

"We just love it," Donna Lakers, a retired warehouse supervisor, said. "Making new friends has been one of my favorite parts of living in this community."

Lakers stays fit, working out every other day in the fitness area of Anthem Center, the community's recreational facility, and walking her dog, Molly, every night around the community. She also takes advantage of the community wellness center, which has staff and technology to monitor workouts.

Staying busy, Lakers takes part in the Computer Club, is learning to play mah-jongg, and is treasurer of the Ceramics Club, as well as a certified ceramics instructor.

Her husband is still a police officer in Alameda, but will retire in April.

The Lakers chose the Liberty model with a casita option.

"Our friends love the casita because they feel at ease, they have their own privacy, and it's very accommodating," Donna Lakers said.

The 2,179-square-foot design has two bedrooms, two baths, a living area, Nevada room, utility room, two-car garage, cart area and covered patio.

"We adore our house," Lakers said.

Lakers is no stranger to the Del Webb name, having worked for the company as an assistant entertainment director at Sahara Tahoe when the company owned the hotel.

The community offers a variety of amenities, including fitness, social, club and dining opportunities at the Anthem Center and The Revere golf course, which is open to the public.

The community has 15 models, ranging from 1,080 to 3,009 square feet and more through the community's Gold Key program. Homes are priced from the high $130,000s to more than $500,000.

To visit, take Eastern Avenue south, two miles past St. Rose Parkway. The model complex is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
